An Incident at the Beach

"Make that tail longer!" My younger sister squealed. We giggled in response. Last Sunday morning, my family and I were at the beach. We were moulding a mermaid's tail out of the soft and powdery sand. That day, the weather was very lovely. The sea was a shimmery blue. Waves lapped gently against the shore as other beachgoers enjoyed their day.

All of a sudden, ear-piercing shouts could be heard in the distance. I turned around and spotted something unusual. It was a girl flailing her arms wildly in the water! She looked like she was being dragged under the surface. My jaw dropped as I was frozen like a statue, unsure of what to do.

Snapping out of my daze, I dashed over to the lifeguard tower to get help. I waved my arms around to catch the attention of the lifeguard. "Help, help! Someone's drowning!" I yelled. Immediately, the lifeguard rushed over to the edge of the shore with a life buoy.

Without hesitation, the lifeguard leapt into the sea and sliced through the water like a shark. Upon reaching the drowning swimmer, the lifeguard lifted her onto the life buoy. She managed to bring her back to shore. When I saw that, I heaved a sigh of relief as my heart finally stopped racing.

Patting me on the back, the lifeguard praised me for being alert and for my quick reaction. It was certainly an eventful day at the beach! I love to help people so I was so glad that I was able to help the drowning swimmer.
